Oh ladies, I know what you are going through! You’re engaged and excited to start all things wedding related. You’re probably choosing or have chosen your wedding photographer and can’t wait to take engagement photos and eventually your wedding photos. There’s just one problem: your fiance is dreading having his picture taken! We’ve shown up to engagement sessions where guys are a little nervous. I totally get it though! It is kind of nerve racking because they don’t know what to expect and aren’t comfortable. So, how do you ease his worries?
1. Have him involved in the process of choosing a wedding photographer.
- He doesn’t need to be with you on your never ending google quest at the beginning but once you’ve narrowed it down to your top choices, show him the photographers and explain what it is you like about them and their work. Make sure to get his opinion on his likes and dislikes as well. The more involved he is with the decision making, the more into the entire process he’ll be.
2. Hire a photographer that fits both of your personalities.
Be sure to hire someone you both feel comfortable to be around. We like to make everything fun, relaxed and easygoing so when our clients are the same, everyone feels so much more comfortable and at ease. The same goes if you’re more serious, find a serious photographer and so on.
3. Have him look at blog posts of other engagements photos.
Once you’ve chosen your photographer and booked an engagement session, make sure to show him some examples of their work so he has a clear idea of what’s going to happen. The more he sees and knows what to expect, the better off he’ll be.
I think the biggest thing is really finding that photographer whom you both love their work and fit with your personalities as well. We expect guys to be a little leery of getting his picture taken but we make sure to ease those fears as quickly as possible. For us, it’s all about getting you both to have fun and giving positive feedback. It really makes a big difference!
