We officially have floor plans! Wahoooo! After much thought (okay, overthinking) we settled on how everything is going to be laid out. Thankfully our general contractor, otherwise known as my dear cousin Jeff, had a good floor plan to start out with. We just knocked down some walls, added a few windows, a fireplace, created a 2 story foyer and a made a few other changes. One thing is for sure, it is VERY easy to go over budget when building a home! We’re trying to stay as close to our original budget as possible so our mortgage payment doesn’t spiral out of control.
With that said, everything is in the banks hands and we’re hoping to break ground on our new home in July or early August some time. We’ll see how long the bank takes….you never know with these banks! I’m so excited to see it start being built instead of just seeing a grassy area of nothingness on our lot. I’ll also be excited to get out of mom and dad’s house! Okay, it’s really not that bad but I do miss having our own home from time to time.
For everyone that has been asking, we’re going to be building in Belchertown, MA. That’s right; we’re going to live in the country! It’s a nice part of town because you’re not too far from civilization but still get a lot of space and that country feel. The directions to our house are along the lines of: when you see the cows, take a right. Coming from Springfield, that just sounds crazy to us “city folk”. I’m looking forward to it though. It’ll be a big change but a good change in the end!
Our floor plans are below. We were able to see these plans in a 3D version as well so that really helped. It’s completely different than just seeing it sketched out on paper. When you come into the front door, you’ll enter the foyer and our O’Brien Photo office will be to the right. My favorite part about the office? That it will have French doors! Yes, these are the things I get excited about. The living room will be to the left and the kitchen and dining room are in the back of the house. All of that space will be open to each other, which I love. The 2nd floor is pretty self-explanatory!
Next up for us, we’ll get to start picking everything out for the house. A dream come true for me! I have a slight obsession with all things interior design and can’t wait to start on that….especially since our old home was so small that there wasn’t too much I could do to it. If you need me, I’ll be on Pinterest and in home stores for the next 6 months!
