The Bliss of Time Off

January 15, 2014

O'Brien Photo > Blog > Business > The Bliss of Time Off

Ahh, the winter “break” of each year is pure bliss! It’s also known as the time when we both only work one job each and take time off from the business. Oh, how lucky we are, hah! Pat and I vow each year to take December off…even though it is SO tempting to take those December weddings we get inquiries for. As we’ve learned time and time again, taking a mental break is SO important. We gave ourselves time to sleep, eat way too much and savor every moment of an official weekend off to do whatever we wanted. Yes, that means not getting out of our pajama’s for an entire day and having Netflix marathons…so what if we watched the entire first season of Orange Is the New Black in the matter of two days?! It was good and worth the extra 5 pounds I’m carrying on my thighs due to take out food. Oh, and we even went candle pin bowling. Twice. We are BEYOND awesome.

Now that we’re in January, business mode is back on (and yeah…so is my diet). We have lots of consultations setup this month. Yay! Also, our summer is pretty much booked up for the year already. I’m sure we could fit 1 or 2 more in but we want to do things a little different this year. We left space to actually enjoy some of the hot weather and work on our tans…or as Pat does, work on his SPF 100 sunscreen applying skillz. Yes, with a Z, because he’s that cool of an Irish guy applying zinc oxide while hiding in his beach tent.

I’m thinking (or at least hoping) 2014 is going to be a great year and beat last year for us in our personal lives. Last year we had our house on the market and it didn’t sell so we took it off the market. Grrr! Upside: we never found a home that we felt could be ours. We’re going to give it another try this year and see what happens. I’m crossing my fingers it all works out because to be honest, we feel like this house is holding us back right now and we’re ready to move onwards and upwards. We shall see though!

So now we’re feeling refreshed and are ready to start focusing on all things O’Brien Photo again. Meaning, I’m ready to come up with ideas and force Pat to implement all of them on his own. Just kidding, I’ll be hovering over his shoulder telling him how to do everything and he’ll scowl back at me. Hey, it’s a scowl full of love! Running a business with your husband/wife: it is pure bliss!

I also want to show off our amazing candlepin bowling skills. Not sure if anyone can beat these scores!
