Getting ready the morning of your wedding is a whirlwind! There are usually hair dressers, make-up artists, me (woo hoo!) and all of your girls trying to get ready. Things can get messy pretty quickly and the time flies by even quicker. For this reason, I put together some tips to make things roll a little bit smoother for photography that morning.
There are items I’ll need that I’d be photographing before anything else. Get all of these things in one place so you don’t have to worry about finding them later on. Pat and I give out this checklist out to all of our brides so they know ahead of time but here’s what it includes:
- Any special items you would like photographed such as a hanky
The biggest thing we recommend is a nice hanger! The hanger that comes with the dress is usually…not the best looking. There are really cute hangers you can get on Etsy or a ton of other places that will look much better in your photos.
Think about where you’re going to be getting dressed. You don’t want the space to be messy. You definitely don’t want bags, food and hair products everywhere when that moment finally comes. It’s a good task to have your bridesmaids help clean up when needed. You also don’t want to get ready somewhere too dark. If possible, I always have brides get ready somewhere with big windows to let as much light as we can in. You’ll always hear me say, “Face the window while getting in your gown”. It makes the photos so much more beautiful.
You’ll also need to plan for extra time. I don’t remember a wedding where someone wasn’t running late. Start hair and makeup earlier then you think so you’re not rushing to get dressed and run out of the door. We’ll need time to take a few photos of you in your gorgeous dress and fresh hair and makeup. These usually end up being some of my favorite images of the day.
I hope this helps! I’m going to be writing some more wedding tip blogs this winter so come back for those!
