I can’t believe it’s been over a month since we’ve been married! I’m just starting to settle into signing my name as Kate O’Brien on documents and I still say, “This is weird!!!” Every single time. I do have to say, Kate O’Brien sounds much cuter than Kate Douthwright…or Kate Doubtfire like people used to call me! Can a name even really be cute? I don’t know but I’m rolling with this one.
I’ve learned a bit about being a newlywed in the past month including but not limited to the following:
- If I ask Pat to do something and he doesn’t want to, I just call him husband and he’s suddenly very happy to be at my assistance. This hasn’t helped my waistline since I’m usually asking for a bowl of ice cream I’d otherwise be too lazy to go get myself but it is pretty amazing.
- The other day I got into Pat’s car, pet the dashboard and said, “Hello, my new half side of the car.” Pat gets the driver side because lord knows he doesn’t want me to drive. I have an acceleration and braking problem…or so he says.
- Being a newlywed makes things seem new again. Every time we laugh now, I think about the fact that I get to laugh like this forever with Pat. It’s nice.
- Nothing has really changed. I still slam the toilet seat every morning and wake Pat up even though I wrote in my vows that I wouldn’t. Pat still thinks I’m crazy but can’t help but laugh at everything I do. I still look right at Pat any time there’s a technical problem with anything in life because he knows I’m hopeless. We still love each other just the same, if not more now.
We’ll see how this post changes in 10+ years from now.
