A Shower and a Surprise

May 26, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, I helped put on a bridal shower for Pat’s sister, Kelli. Or I should say, my soon to be sister-in-law. I’m in her wedding next month so me, her mom and her other bridesmaids have been emailing each other back and forth like its nobodies business for months. We thought we had everything planned out perfectly. Her bridesmaid, Mindi, lives in North Carolina so we thought we were all so smart and would sneak her up here for the shower. We were wrong. I don’t think any of us took Kelli’s intuitiveness into account and praised ourselves for being generally awesome planners. Yeah, she figured it out. We had a whole dinner planned where Mindi would show up out of the blue and say, “Heeey, we fooled you”! Instead, she walked in and Kelli said, “I knew it”! Giiiirl, why you gotta be so smart?!

We also planned out the flowers and the favors and neither of them showed up on the day of the shower. Pat’s mom and I paced around waiting for UPS to show up that morning (the shipper thought it would be a great idea to have them sent the morning of…don’t ask). I looked at our tracking number online and it said Delivery Exception. Exception?! I gotta bounce! Thankfully Pat is the master at making phone calls I can’t hack and asked UPS customer service if he’d like him to stand in our driveway with a flare gun so our house could be found. Hilarious! Kudos to my little Irish lad. Although, in the end, they never showed up but we had chocolate lollipops to give out to people. Don’t get me wrong, they were cute ones but really? Chocolate lollipops? Make it work! And that’s just what we did.

The shower ended up being so nice and Kelli got emotional a few times, which made everyone else emotional. My favorite part is when she received a framed picture of her fiancé, Matt, as a young kid. I’ve never seen tears flow so quickly. It was such a nice moment! I caught the tail end of it. 🙂

I was just happy to be part of her day and can’t wait to be in the wedding in only 4 short weeks. Her dress is gorgeous, her venue looks amazing and more importantly, the spray tan is spot in on. Yup, I’d say she’s ready!

Here are a few pictures I snapped at the shower. Kelli, I swear I’m going to put them all up…this weekend. 🙂
