I’ve never been so fooled in all my life.
It was the first real spring day in Massachusetts so I planned ahead. That’s right; I planned the entire day out without knowing a thing. I planned a picnic at one of our favorite parks nearby to hang out alone and have a nice quiet day.
We arrived and I rolled out the blanket, set out the food and got ready to eat until my heart was content. In the meantime, Pat was setting up his camera on a tripod and I was completely oblivious. I was also completely oblivious when he pulled a ring box out of his bag. After all, those ham sandwiches were looking real good to me. Until…
Pat: Stand up
Me: Uhhh…why? Wait, what’s that box????
Pat: Come on, stand up.
I stand. He kneels down….I blanked out.
Pat: (What I heard) fdfjmumblejumble fhkshfBestFriend jsdhLoveYou ksjfMarryMe….
Me: Huh? What? Huh? What? Seriously? Is this happening?
Pat: Well, what’s your answer!
Me: Yes. Wait, is this actually happening?
Yes folks, I’m a serious romantic. But really, it was the last thing I was ever expecting. I knew it was going to come soon but I didn’t think it would be until the summer time and I also thought I would know because he would have some huge plans for us.
He knows me too well. I would’ve smelled that out at dinner plans. I figure absolutely everything out because I need to be in the know. All. The. Time. Having me plan the day is the only way it would work.
So here we are, after almost 5 years of being together and finally going to walk down the aisle. It still hasn’t hit me yet but I’ve never been so happy in all my life. Pat and I are complete opposite people but that’s why we work. He picks up my slack where I fall and keeps me on track when I feel like derailing. He honestly makes me a better person and I couldn’t ask for anyone better than that.
I look forward to many years of our constant laughter, adventures and even our silly bickering. Ok, maybe less bickering but I wouldn’t trade our relationship in for anything in the world.
And I definitely won’t give up my new rock.
Here we are a few minutes after he asked. Good thing he setup that tripod before hand!
