When Niki told us she wanted the max number of inappropriate photos to be taken at their engagement shoot on Saturday, I knew we were in for an afternoon of amazingness. These two are hilarious together and definitely fit into Pat and I’s vision as the perfect client.
Sean asked Niki to marry him at home. He said he had a surprise for her but instead of getting excited, she wasn’t in the mood and just wanted him to spill the beans. Little did she know he was planning on popping the question. After being together for 2 years, they are getting married this October at The Ranch in Southwick, MA. I love this venue and swoon when hearing all about Niki’s DIY details she plans to do for the day.
This was the perfect engagement session to start off the Spring for us. The weather was great, we had so much fun and their photos show how much these two really belong together.

I’m kind of obsessed with these pictures. They make me fall in love with New England all over again. They also make me think Caitlin & David may be the cutest couple on Earth. We met these two and instantly liked them because they couldn’t have been any nicer. They’re even the boy and girl next door that grew up together and are now getting married. Plus, they’re getting married at The Publick House, a place very near and dear to our hearts obviously! Their wedding is next July and I so can’t wait to be on the other side of the venue since it is so beautiful. As is Caitlin! Her laughter and smiles made me happy while editing all of these pictures. The way David looks at her is so adorable as well; they are definitely the real deal.
So looking forward to your wedding you guys! Counting down to July 27th!!
I also need to thank our friend and fellow photographer Cindy for letting us use her house and property to take these photos. Thanks again Cindy!!
Sometimes people show up to engagement shoots or weddings nervous for their picture being taken. They haven’t been in front of a camera in years and definitely never with their fiancé. No one wants to look stiff, uncomfortable or have fake smiles plastered on their faces…at least I know I sure don’t! There are a lot of rules with how to pose someone to look their best. Pat and I know what they are and Pat and I know when to toss the rules out of the window. That’s usually when genuine emotion comes through that shows real smiles, laughter and connection.
So, how do you get yourself to feel natural in front of a camera? Bottom line, it’s not up to you, it’s up to us. We can’t expect you to show up and know what you’re doing and just say wing it. We need to guide you to the “wing it” phase. That’s the phase when the guard finally comes down and you just have fun with it. We do that by asking you to do something that sounds pretty ridiculous. Pat has been known to tell the guys to whisper something dirty in the girl’s ear. Sound embarrassing and untraditional? It is! But what you get is a genuine laugh and expression….oh, and we never want to know what the guy says! Keep that biz-nass on the DL!
We tell all of our couples that what we ask sounds dumb but ends up looking amazing! It’s never about what we’re asking you to do but the reaction to what we’re asking. The more hilarious the task, the more natural and fun the picture turns out. Sure, we may get a few funny looks at what we’re telling them to do but that’s ok, if I need to sound like a clown for a day, I’m down with it for a shot they’ll love forever.
